About Me
I am a mixed media artist in love with the process of creating. I delight in the experience of applying paint to canvas, constructing layers, and adding texture. My greatest inspiration comes from ancient wisdom and all that connects us to one another, to our collective history, and to that which lies beyond the physical world.
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed experimenting with a wide variety of materials. In the early 1990’s I began cutting into the canvas surface, creating openings, (windows) within the paintings. These cutouts gave way to the use of multiple canvas layers, adding a multi-dimensional effect. For over ten years, my photographs were recessed within the cutouts as the focal point.
Now, raw canvas has become the primary element in my paintings — cut and prepared with strings, fringes, and frayed edges. I often build layers with the cloth pieces which are then sewn onto the stretched canvas. At other times the cloth is added as a textural element beneath the painted surface. Text of ancient prayers, mantras, and words of wisdom often find their way onto my canvases.
Originally, a native New Yorker, I relocated to California in 1994.
There is always a new creative venture to explore.
