Cycles
Cycles
8” x 10” x 1-1/2”
Original acrylic, paper, pencils, and a tiny piece of cloth on canvas.
“Cycles” is the third in a group of small works on canvas within the Elements series. I’m beginning each of these with a word or concept, then painting the background color before adding ink, papers, and cloth Elements. I started by drawing out a grid and quickly found myself influenced by a recent geometric exercise I loved doing. So began the journey through the cycles of developing a painting: from concept, play, surprises, questions, trust, changes, maybes and maybe nots, more changes, stops and starts, ahaa’s and ahh’s. (Not necessarily in that order.)
There is a handwritten quote that barely shows up beneath the paint. These handwritten words are mine:
“The cycles of life ever changing gifts of time,
Rolling from one to the next
Changing and altered through time” (this 3rd line is repeated again.)
The sides of the canvas are textured and painted to match the rest of the background. The signature and date appear on the side.
