“Wholeness” is a mixed media painting that demanded my attention from start to finish, with a constant flow of ideas for its development. It was inspired by the concept of the oneness or wholeness shared by all life on this planet. How we, along with the animals, sea creatures, birds, and plant life, share the earth, air, sunlight, nutrients, energy, and life itself on this planet… as one… as a whole.
Beginning with the foundation of a grid, the spiral seemed ideal as a symbol of wholeness. The quote that appears on the painting (but barely visible) are the words of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe:
“In nature we never see anything isolated, but everything in connection with something else which is before it, beside it, under it and over it.”
The sides of the canvas are textured and painted to match the rest of the background. The signature and date appear on the side.
